Book Review: Hello, Cruel Heart by Maureen Johnson

A book about Cruella De Vil as a teenager? Yes, please! I wa so excited to receive an ARC copy of Hello, Cruel Heart and it didn’t disappoint.

Author Maureen Johnson opens with the teenage Estella. She’s got a knack for petty crime but dreams of fashion design.

The sixteen-year old and her accomplices Jasper and Horace are getting along just fine. And then Estella is introduced to the posh life by twins Magda and Richard.

Under the tutelage of the twins, Estella can finally imagine a more prosperous future in which she has the job—and the love—she’s always dreamed of.

But Estella’s underlying dark side—Cruella—is just a betrayal away from taking over entirely.

Hello, Cruel Heart is an imaginative origin story for One of Disney’s classic villainess’s. Set in the 1960’s it almost seems like a true biography of a bright, talented young girl on the cusp of becoming so very infamous.

Hello, Cruel Heart is available now.

*I received an advanced audiobook copy of Hello, Cruel Heart from Disney Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*
