For as long as I can remember I’ve loved a good mob story be it fiction or non-fiction. I was excited for the opportunity to read Carlo Gambino: Boss of Bosses. This biography covers the life of one of the most well-known and powerful mafia figures in the US. Carlo Gambino’s immigration to the US was the first step toward the criminal empire he would ultimately create. One of the authors, Frank DiMatteo, grew up during Gambino’s tenure and spent time in his presence as well as that of Gambino’s associates. The book is told in what feels like a series of vignettes with the conversational voice of someone who maneuvered in and around the world of the rising five families. Overall, Carlo Gambino: Boss of Bosses was an interesting and engaging read.
